BiOP, an innovative company specializing in precision fermentation, today announces the launch of construction of its future pilot facility, marking a key milestone in its industrial and technological development.
The project is now underway, with development progressing over the coming months. It involves the creation of a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to precision fermentation, covering process development, scale-up, and contract manufacturing services (CDMO/CMO).
The site will feature next-generation fermentation lines, a fully equipped R&D laboratory, and an advanced analytical lab with high-performance instrumentation. It will also include preparation, purification, and packaging areas designed to meet the most stringent international standards, including ISO 22000.
“The start of construction represents much more than a building phase - it marks the beginning of a new momentum for BiOP and for the entire sector,” says Dr. Khadidja Romari, CEO. “This facility will play a key role in accelerating our biotechnological capabilities and strengthening Europe’s industrial capacity.”
Designed to support process scale-up, from laboratory to pre-industrial production, the facility will enable BiOP to partner with manufacturers and start-ups to meet the growing demand for sustainable, safe, and traceable ingredients. The pilot will notably include 15 m³ fermenters, a comprehensive downstream processing (DSP) platform (microfiltration, ultrafiltration, UHT, crystallization, ion exchange, drying, etc.), as well as dedicated space for scale-up and technology transfer.
With this project, BiOP reinforces its ambition to become a leading European player in precision fermentation, contributing to the transition toward more sustainable and responsible production methods across both food and non-food industries.
The site is expected to be commissioned in the coming months, starting with the first operational line of phase one. Further expansions are already being considered as part of the 2025–2028 strategic plan.
