2. Main missions
The process operator helps manage precision fermentation processes and oversees preparation, operation, and cleaning procedures, while adhering to quality, safety, and traceability standards.
3. Responsibilities
• Prepare, sterilize, and commission fermenters and related equipment.
• Conduct fermentation processes according to established protocols (inoculation, monitoring of parameters, adjustments).
• Prepare culture media, buffer solutions, and cleaning agents.
• Monitor critical parameters in real time (pH, DO, temperature, agitation, aeration, pressures).
• Collect and prepare samples for analysis (cells, biomass, intracellular/extracellular products).
• Maintain batch records, laboratory logs, and digital tracking systems.
• Apply cleaning-in-place (CIP) and sterilization-in-place (SIP) procedures.
• Perform first-level maintenance on equipment.
• Comply with GMP, ISO 22000, and HSE regulations.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (5S, lean, troubleshooting).
4. Skills required
Technique
• Knowledge of microbial fermentation processes (yeasts, bacteria,
filamentous fungi).
• Proficiency in the use of fermenters (5 L – 15 m³) and related equipment.• Knowledge of analytical monitoring techniques (optical density, biomass,
HPLC, metabolites).
• Basic understanding of downstream processing (centrifugation, filtration, UF/MF).
• Understanding of quality standards (ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP).
Organizational & relational
• Ability to follow specific procedures and document activities.
• Attention to detail, thoroughness, and a team-oriented mindset.
• Ability to work independently and respond quickly to production challenges.
5. Profile wanted
Formation
Education: Vocational high school diploma / Technical high school diploma (processes, chemistry, food industry), two-year college degree
(biotechnology).
Experiment
• Experience: 1 to 3 years in industrial, pharmaceutical, food processing, or biotech pilot-scale fermentation (preferred).
• Strong knowledge of health and safety in an industrial setting.
• Basic computer skills.
Languages
Technical English proficiency (reading procedures)
6. Working conditions
• Position based in Clermont-Ferrand.
• Shift work (2x8 or 3x8) depending on the production schedule
